LONG BEACH, Calif. (KFSN) -- After a night of remembering Nohemi Gonzalez, students at Long Beach State returned to classes Monday. The 23-year-old junior died in the terrorist attack in Paris.

Some of the students heading back to class stopped at the memorial dedicated to Gonzalez. She was spending a semester studying abroad in Paris when her life was cut short by the terrorist attack. Students were still taking it in.

"Just to think a fellow Long Beach Student just died just because she was studying abroad just kind of upsets me and surprises me a bit," said Jennie Dinh, Long Beach State student.

"Yeah it is shocking, who would have thought out of all the schools somebody from Cal State Long Beach could actually be affected. And here we are," said Ruby Dais, Long Beach State student.

Sunday night a crowd of more than 2,000 gathered for a vigil and heard from Gonzalez's family, friends, and classmates. Alex Schumaker said she was the hardest worker and most dedicated in the School of Industrial Design. "She was a massive, awesome, person. She helped us through all of our projects-- That's all I really have to say."

Most of the 35,000 students on this campus didn't know Gonzalez, but her death has brought home a reminder of the evil in the world. "There're attacks happening like that and potentially could happen here, I mean, you never know," said Travis Birmley, Long Beach State student.

"It just made me realize anything can happen to you at any moment," explained Monica Chan Long Beach State student.
