Central Unified superintendent to retire
The superintendent of the Central Unified School District has decided to retire.

FRESNO, Calif. -- Michael Berg has served as the superintendent for the last five years and said he plans on retiring in December.

Berg said he has accomplished a number of goals with the district -- including improving their graduation rate, tackling the budget, and putting more technology in classrooms. This year, Central Unified was the first district to give every student a computer tablet.

"I just think it's the right time for me to step down and pursue other interests and actually spend a little time with my family, enjoying my kids and enjoying some of the fun things I haven't spent enough time in. But for this next year I'm keenly focused on the things I need to get done here in Central and finish strong," said Michael Berg, Superintendent of Central Unified School District.

Berg said he will likely take a short vacation after his retirement, and then possibly consider a job in the private sector.
