Back to School Lunches

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Thousands of Valley families are getting their kids ready to go back to school. One of the challenges for parents is trying to make lunch a little more exciting than what can fit into a brown paper bag.

Shayna Telesmanic of the Young Chefs Academy says parents can have a stress free morning by preparing ahead of time. She recommends picking a day like Sunday to meal prep and get organized. She uses several organizers filled with different food groups, so that kids can grab food and go. She says you can also get kids involved in the process.

To liven up your child's school lunch, chef Shayna showed us how to make three fun lunches for your kiddos: build your own taco, sandwich on a stick and PB banana sushi bento.

Build your own taco

-put cupcake wrappers in a plastic container

-fill each wrapper with a meat product, diced tomatoes lettuce, cheese and tortilla chips

Sandwich on a stick

-use skewers to build the sandwich

-cut up bread, lunch meat, cheese and vegetable

-layer the sandwich on the skewer

PB Banana Sushi Bento

-take a piece of bread and use a rolling pin to flatten it out

-spread peanut butter or almond butter, add honey

-lay a banana over the bread and roll up the piece of bread like a sushi roll

-cut small slices like sushi and put it in a bento box
