FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Some parents in the Central Valley are celebrating the new year with new babies.
First off, we're hearing from a young couple who are the parents of the first baby born in Fresno County in 2015. Tanisha Lyman gave birth to Lyric Nicole Mason 35 minutes after midnight. The 5 pound, 2.4 ounce little girl was born a month premature but is doing just fine. Mom says she came as a surprise to end the year.
"I had woke up around 5 o'clock in the morning on the 31st and thought I had to use the bathroom but it was the fluid that was coming out," said Lyman. "So then I had a doctor's appointment that day, and they told me I might have her the next day, and she came."
Lyman says the contractions were the worst part but well worth the pain. She plans to finish school and hopes to get a degree working with children.
Meantime, Guadalupe is Kings County's first baby of the new year. She was born just 37 minutes after midnight at Adventist Hospital in Hanford. She's the first baby girl for her parents, who also have two sons. Guadalupe weighed 7 pounds, 1 ounce at birth and was 21 inches in length.
Kaweah Delta Medical Center in Visalia also welcomed its first baby of 2015. Orion Moutsanides was born at 2:40 a.m. Thursday. She weighed in at 7 pounds, 13 ounces and was 19 1/2 inches in length.
