FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Authorities are searching for the person who fatally stabbed a man outside a bar in East Central Fresno early Saturday morning.

Fresno police responded to Ewell's Bar at Chestnut and McKinley avenues around 1:30 a.m. for a report of a stabbing victim. When they arrived, officers say they found Omar Perez, 35, of Fresno suffering from stab wounds to his torso.

Police performed CPR on the victim. Perez was then transported to Community Regional Medical Center, where he later died.

Detectives say the victim and the suspect had an argument inside the bar, which then turned into a physical fight outside the business. They say the suspect stabbed Perez and then ran away through the parking lot and into a neighborhood just behind the strip mall. Officers say they located a bloody knife in the driveway of a home near Chestnut and University avenues.

The victim's sister-in-law told Action News he was an honorable, hardworking man who loved his wife and two children.

A man who frequents the strip mall talked to us off camera for fear of retaliation. He said the suspect is a Bulldog gang member. The suspect is described as a Hispanic man in his mid-20s, 5'7" tall, 150 pounds, with a medium complexion and possible acne scars.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact detectives at (559) 621-2446 or Crime Stoppers at (559) 498-STOP.

This is the city of Fresno's 30th homicide of 2014. At this time last year, there were 22.

NOTE: This is not the same Ewell's Place where another man was stabbed to death last summer as Action News previously reported.
