Controversial auction of Japanese internment camp art canceled

SAN FRANCISCO -- A scheduled auction of items from internment camps -- that outraged many Bay Area Japanese Americans is now cancelled.

The idea was met with criticism from Japanese families who felt it commercialized personal mementos collected by people forced into world war two internment camps.

The New Jersey auction house is now looking to place the items in a museum.

Japanese-Americans and others protested on a Facebook page, signed a petition that demands the auctioneers delay the sale. The page has already attracted more than 2,000 likes.
