FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A Fresno County Sheriff's deputy is recovering from injuries to his face after struggling with a burglary suspect.

Matthew Lopez, 19, is accused of fighting the deputy and trying to take his gun on Friday. The scuffle happened after a woman called 911 to say she could hear someone trying to break in through a side door of her house near Olive and Blythe, west of Fresno.

Investigators say Lopez was still trying to get into the home when the first deputy arrived and confronted him. That deputy suffered cuts to his face during the arrest, but was treated and released from the hospital.

Lopez was also treated for injuries, and then booked into jail on several charges.
