FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A 35-year-old man was hospitalized after being shot in the chest on Sunday in Central Fresno, police say.
Officers responded to the Brooks Villa Apartments near Brooks and University avenues shortly before 4 p.m.
When they arrived, they found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound and transported him to the hospital.
Police say the man survived the shooting, though his exact condition was not immediately released.
Investigators are working to determine what led to the gunfire due to conflicting information from those involved.
"There are some inconsistencies with that statement and the initial story that was provided before we came out and listed additional suspects... we like to take the opportunity to go through the surveillance and confirm what was being told to the officers," said Fresno Police Lt. David Madrigal.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact Fresno Police or Valley Crime Stoppers.
