Some travelers turned away from Yosemite due to winter weather

YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK (KFSN) -- Many travelers trying to see the beauty of Yosemite National Park in the snow were turned away due to the recent winter weather Saturday.

"A lot of people were stuck there, and they didn't have chains and they had to turn all the way back," said traveler Yaquelyn, who was one of those visitors who didn't have luck making it passed some of the snowy roads leading up to Yosemite Saturday.

Yaqueline and her family joined many people seen sledding on random hills outside the park - several saying they couldn't make it all the way there.

Others, however, were more fortunate, but say they had to wait.

"We were probably waiting for about an hour to get into the park, which I've never really experienced," said Melissa Montoya as she took in the view of El Capitan.

Montoya said it was all worth it, to see one of nature's most magnificent views in all the glory of snow and heavier waterfalls.

Others who also made it into the park said they wish others could have, too -- some regulars offering advice for those who want to see Yosemite in the snow.

"Check the weather. And there are a lot of traffic cams that you can check to see what the roads are looking like," said John Alsup, who said he lives about an hour from Yosemite.
