It was for the annual "No Pants Subway Ride Day," which was started by the theater group 'Improv Everywhere' in New York 13 years ago.

Yesterday, there were hoards of half-naked people lining up to board the trains worldwide just for the fun of it.

"We got on with pants on just hanging out and then took our pants off at a random stop and continued on like nothing was going on," explained participant Ben Batorsky.

While it may be questionable attire in public, the transportation groups were aware of the event and did not cite riders for indecent exposure as long as they were wearing some form of underwear.
