Lorenzo Hernandez-Torres, Grandpa, says in Spanish, "I was lying down when I heard a noise. I came out of the room quickly and Ricardo was already on the floor."
Torres says he found him with stab wounds to his chest and unresponsive. He says he is confused and terrified by what happened to his grandson. Torres says, "I feel very bad. My daughter, the mother of this child, I can't believe what happened."
Relatives say the suspect entered the home through the sliding glass back door and may have known the lock was broken. Sheriff's detectives are saying little about what happened but have already arrested a 16-year old Richgrove boy for the murder and burglary.
As for the victim, Ricardo Lopez- Hernandez attended Richgrove Elementary School. His cousin, Gabriel, says he liked to play soccer and hang out with his friends.
Gabriel Hernandez, Cousin, says "Nice kid, caring kid. He had a lot of friends and he enjoyed being a teenager. He wasn't involved in any gangs. He was doing good in school."
Family members are still making funeral arrangements. Deputies are asking anyone with information on this incident to call them immediately.
