At the site of the accident, a Corvette was seen flipped over, and body parts were strewn across a very long stretch of Roscoe Boulevard, between Balboa Place and Hayvenhurst Avenue. Police said the force of the accident sheared off the tail end of the vehicle.
LAPD Capt. Bill Sutton said one witness said the Corvette was traveling eastbound on Balboa Place at a very high rate of speed, but when it reached a curve, the driver lost control.
"Struck a guardrail, then a light standard, we believe at that time, that's when the occupants of the vehicle were ejected," Sutton said.
The vehicle continued then flipped over and skidded down the road on its roof.
"Very, very horrific scene here," Sutton said.
Earlier, authorities thought one of the victims may have been a pedestrian, but they now believe that all four victims were inside the two-seater.
The victims have only been identified as two males and two females. It is unknown if alcohol or drugs played a factor in the crash.
