National Day of Prayer Events

FRESNO, Calif. The annual tradition was formalized in 1952, but there were National Days of Prayer long before then. While it has become controversial in recent years, supporters say it's a chance for Americans to give thanks, in accordance with their own religious backgrounds.

Mountain View Pastor, Fred Leonard said, "We want to declare before our community and before all people that we as Christians, as followers of Jesus, love our city, love our country, love our nation and we want to pray for it and we want to pray for our leaders. And we want to do it together before all people and together as the church in Clovis unified."

Several other National Day of Prayer events are taking place around the Valley Thursday night, including a gathering at Fresno's City Hall.
