"I just want to write more and more," says Alejandra. "I just really love writing."
The fifth grader at Ben Benavidez Elementary school in Parlier has been writing since second grade-- and has already penned four books.
"She really pushes herself," says Alejandra's mom, Lupe Leija. "She'll go through the rough draft and the editing process and everything."
Alejandra says, ""It takes me about a week to write a book."
That's right-- a week, because for this talented 11-year old, there's no such thing as writer's block.
"I just keep on thinking and it comes to me."
Her inspiration is her grandmother's dog-- called "Huera", Spanish for blondie.
"She is a little dog, a little Chihuahua; she's really cute. I really really love her."
Alejandra also illustrates her books with drawings and pictures she takes of Huera in various costumes.
Her teacher, Paul Bundy says she has a big imagination. "She'll take a little bit of something and just run with it."
Her skill and creativity just won Alejandra a big award. Last week she was honored as the "Young Author of the Year for Fresno County," beating out hundreds of students.
"I started kind of crying when I found out and I was really, really happy."
Alejandra is already planning more adventures for little Huera. As for her, it's a future filled with books.
"I wanted to be a doctor and an actor and a singer but now I really want to be an author."
