According to the Madera County Jail ... 33-year-old Ivette Godinez is facing one charge of hit-and-run resulting in death ... along with a charge of vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. She's accused of leaving the scene after hitting three year old Efrain Hernandez Tuesday night.
Wednesday morning, a teddy bear was left at Olive Avenue and Martin Street where he was hit. Officers say the little boy was walking in the crosswalk with an adult relative and his young siblings when a woman driving a Saturn SUV crashed into him. Witnesses say she made a u-turn and came back toward the scene, but then - sped away when she realized she had hit a child.
Efrain's father describes his son as a happy little boy who loved to sing and play with his big brother. "He was learning many things, a beautiful little boy." Hernandez said.
Erica Rodriguez witnessed the crash. "She just looked like she was in shock that she hit a kid, but she still took off, she never stopped."
Godinez is being held on 225-thousand dollars bond.
