Central Unified School District Summer Meal Program

There is no reason for anyone to go hungry. Central Unified believes in creating healthy communities, beginning with good nutrition. The District has a goal of serving 80,000 meals this summer.

Snapshot:

1. Funding for the program is made available through the United States Department of Agriculture.

2. There are no jurisdiction restrictions.

3. Meals are free for anyone under 18 years of age.

4. Parents and/or any other adults can eat for a discounted price of $2.50 per meal.

5. No identification or income verification is required.

Summer Library Program
Since the summer of 2008, Central Unified School District has opened libraries at selected school sites within its jurisdiction to focus on providing area children the opportunity to visit these library sites during the summer. Central Unified understands not having public libraries in our community has created hardships on a family's ability to access quality reading materials when schools are closed. Central Unified believes in the importance of educating our community's children by helping them retain and reinforce what they learned during the school year. This year, Central Unified is opening six locations to serve community residents (see locations on page two).

Kaiser Permanente granted $7,500 to the Foundation for Central Schools to help support this effort.
