Officials with the LA County Sheriff's Department say the driver lost control, slamming into one pump and ripping it from the cement. Afterwards, it slammed into a second pump and the support beams, causing the awning to collapse.
A sheriff's spokesman said a deputy tried to pull over the car shortly before the crash-- but it took off. The two people in the car were taken to the hospital - and were listed in serious condition.
Investigators are now looking into whether alcohol was a factor in the crash.
