Hanford Joint Union High School District is enforcing a closed campus policy for most of its students this year. Administrators say the new policy aims at keeping kids safer.

Hanford West High School has hired twelve security officers and teachers aids to assist in ensuring kids stay on campus.

Some local restaurants say the new policy is hurting them. They claim much of their business came from high school kids who went off-campus for lunch.

Sokhemaly Lend, Donut Coral said, "We're gonna hurt, all the business around here, because usually the kids come here around lunch and they are so happy to get off the campus."

Juniors and seniors who meet certain GPA and other eligibility requirements are allowed off campus for lunch.
