Beards, hair cut in Amish-on-Amish attacks

FRESNO, California

In Holmes County Ohio, officers say as many as twenty men on horse drawn carriages attacked Amish men and women with scissors, cutting their hair.

The violent haircuts are meant to humiliate and punish those Amish who are supposedly weak in the faith.

The sheriff says the assaults are the work of members of the "Bergholz Clan," a group of Amish religious castoffs who are fighting over spiritual differences.

Sheriff Timothy Zimmer said, "It's pretty bizarre for us, we've never had anything like this happen here before."

No arrests have been made yet, but investigators said they soon plan to file assault and burglary charges against the leader of the clan.
