Two killed in Friant Road crash

FRESNO COUNTY, Calif.

Friant Road was back open Sunday evening.

The California Highway Patrol said the passenger of this mangled Cadillac died on the scene, as did the driver of a blue motorcycle. The C.H.P. said only one person was on the motorcycle at the time of the crash. There were two people in the Cadillac. The driver of the car was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries.

The crash happened as the northbound Cadillac was making a left hand turn into a private driveway for a fruit stand and winery along Friant Road. The C.H.P. said it's still not clear yet if the driver of the Cadillac noticed the southbound motorcycle heading toward him.

Investigators do think the driver of the motorcycle was speeding. "We're looking at speed for a determining factor here, but to say who is at fault is under investigation," said Sgt. Brian Yokley with the C.H.P.

The C.H.P. also said several drivers who saw the crash stopped to give the motorcycle driver C.P.R., but he was pronounced dead. He was wearing a helmet and the two people in the Cadillac were wearing their seat belts.

The identities of those killed have not been released, but the Highway Patrol said the person who died in the Cadillac was an elderly woman in her 70's. The person on the motorcycle who died was a man in his mid- 20's.

All the people involved are believed to be from the Fresno area.
