A few dozen people gathered at the Fresno Pet Cemetery for a ceremony to honor Bones.
Rescuers named the dog Bones after he was found starving and near death in Livingston.
An outpouring of community support followed and Bones was treated at a Fresno pet hospital until he died a few days later.
A Valley monument business donated a headstone with a photo of Bones.
It also has a bit of his story saying he fought hard and found his way into many hearts.
Organizers of the event say they also hope today's service serves as a reminder of the need for responsible pet ownership.
