Combating holiday weight gain a challenge

FRESNO, Calif.

A Texas Tech University study says the average American will gain a pound a half between Thanksgiving and New Years.

That's 15 pounds a decade, and that's even if you diet and exercise regularly the rest of the year.

In this age of calorie counting and gym-busting workouts, the decision to eat or drink those delicious treats can prove to be more than challenging.

Yahoo Health has put up the seven worst holiday foods on its website.

First on our list is coffee. Starbucks features a peppermint white chocolate mocha. The grande has 550-calories, 78 grams of carbs and 12 teaspoons of sugar.

Next is the Denny's holiday turkey melt with fries, and no turkey melt is complete without gravy.

It's packed with 13-hundred calories and a whopping 57 grams of fat - and 32-hundred grams of sodium.

Last but not least - the worst thing you can eat this holiday IHOP eggnog pancakes.

A stack will set you back 21-hundred calories, 84 grams of fat and 123 grams of sugar.
