The student, an openly gay junior, wore the shoes on Thursday. Tyrese Maye said he also purposely urged several girls to wear their heels too -- just to see who was told not to wear them.
An administrator at the school says they asked him to take them off because it was partly a safety issue in case of a fire in the four story building.
About two dozen people turned out in front of the school to support the 17-year-old who has also gathered a few hundred signatures urging the school to allow heels for girls or boys.
