Action News AM Live had the first pictures as flames broke out just before 5 a.m. Monday morning at Broadway and 80th Street in Atwater.
Several vehicles were on fire, and the flames spread to the apartment building.
"It was quickly determined that it was multiple vehicles that the fire moved into the structure. We requested a second alarm response and we were able to hold the fire to one apartment unit and did not lose the other five units," Cal Fire Battalion Chief Jeff Isaacs said.
When firefighters arrived at the scene they said power lines were down and slowed down their attack on the fire.
There's no word on how many people were displaced.
