According to a preliminary report from the USDA, Chardonnay grapes accounted for the largest percentage of crushed grapes in California. Cabernet grapes came in a close second.
While Chardonnay, as a variety, was the most common, red wine grapes ultimately outweighed whites accounting for more than half of the 3.3-million tons crushed.

A new agreement between the U.S. and European Union means organic products certified in the U.S. or Europe can be sold as organic in either region.
The deal was reached this week, in Germany. The U.S. and European Union are the two largest producers of organic products in the world. The deal is expected to help each region promote organic agriculture, grow the industry and create new jobs on a global scale.
