Legislation may do away with farm overtime exemption

FRESNO, Calif.

The Senate Labor and Industrial Relations Committee will consider the legislation on Wednesday. Right now, farm workers only get paid overtime after they've worked ten hours in one day. But if the legislation passes, they will be qualified for overtime pay after eight hours, just like most employees.

Some farmers oppose the proposal, saying they will be forced to limit their current workers' hours and hire additional workers.
