A conference is taking place this week to discuss conservation of farmland around the state.

Ag officials say conserving farmland helps assure food production to sustain a growing population. But maintaining California farmland has become quite a challenge.

The Napa County Farm Bureau and the American Farmland Trust will hold a statewide conference in Napa on Friday. Organizers say the sessions will showcase successful farmland conservation programs and identify obstacles to farmland protection.
