The accident happened on Whitesbridge near Hayes just after 4 a.m. Saturday. The CHP says a Volkswagen Jetta heading east crossed into the westbound lanes and slammed into a Ford Expedition.
Fresno firefighters used the Jaws of Life to remove several of the victims from both vehicles. The woman driving the Jetta and a passenger in the SUV were killed. The vicitms have been identified as 19-year-old Guadalupe Galvan Perez and 30-year-old Socorro Hernandez-Ramirez.
Five other people suffered minor to moderate injuries in the crash.
