When firefighters arrived, they had to use ladders to get the victims out. One other resident escaped, but was taken to a Fresno hospital to be treated for burns.

"It was crazy. I never thought this would happen to me. I live with my son too, and I'm just glad he wasn't here with me," said Jessie Cha, Apartment resident.

Fire officials say the fire broke out around 8:15 am in the bottom unit of a four-unit apartment that was two stories. The flames quickly spread. The smoke was so heavy it trapped three residents upstairs. The residents couldn't get out. Firefighters arrived on scene and rescued three people by ladder.

All four people have been displaced and the Red Cross has stepped in to help them. Fire investigators are taking a closer look at the damage to try and figure out how the fire was started. Residents said they did not hear any smoke detectors.
