Kern County deputy allegedly brandished gun at girl, 12

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- An off-duty Kern County sheriff's deputy has been arrested for allegedly brandishing a gun at a 12-year-old girl.

Forty-four-year-old Edward Tucker was arrested Saturday night in front of a home in Bakersfield.

Authorities say it appears Tucker drove up, approached a group of girls, spoke briefly to them and pulled the gun. The girls ran into the house.

Deputies found five handguns, two shotguns, an assault rifle and methamphetamine in Tucker's car.

He was booked for being under the influence of a controlled substance, DUI and child cruelty.

Department spokesman Ray Pruitt says it appears Tucker didn't know the girls.

He's been on leave for a year but details weren't released.

Tucker is no longer in jail and it's unclear if he has a lawyer.
