FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- The body of a Hispanic man in his 60s has been found in a canal near the town of Sultana, Tulare County Sheriff's deputies say.
According to authorities, the call came into officials as a water rescue but was turned over to sheriff's deputies. Sultana is located 2.5 miles east of Dinuba.
The body was pulled from the canal near Avenue 416 and Road 100 at 5:30 p.m. Officials say the dive team is searching the water for anything that may reveal how the body ended up in the canal.
It is unclear how long the body has been in the canal, but deputies say it has been more than 12 hours. An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday afternoon.
Investigators are treating the incident as a homicide until the cause of death is determined.
