Family identifies worker presumed dead after silo collapse in Pennsylvania

BRISTOL TWP., Pa. -- Authorities say a worker is presumed to have been killed when a silo collapsed at an industrial site in Bristol Township, Bucks County overnight.

Action News spoke to family members, who identify the worker as Tony Gabriele.

The collapse happened at an industrial warehouse complex in the 7900 block of North Radcliffe Street.

The incident was discovered around midnight by a police officer in the area. Authorities say the officer at first believed the dust in the air was snow, but it turned out to be material from the collapse.

Gabriele is believed to have been working near the storage silo when it collapsed.

His exact location at the time of the collapse is still not known.

Officials are now trying to determine the best way to try to recover his body.

His brother tells Action News that Tony was the only person working at the silo last night, and he was supposed to get off at midnight.

The warehouse complex contains a number of businesses, including some that process rock salt for roads and cement powder for construction projects.

Images from Chopper 6 HD broadcast on Action News at 6:00 a.m. showed multiple fire, police and rescue units searching the area adjacent to several large storage structures.

The storage structures are located close to the Delaware River.

They are used to store material delivered by cargo ships that travel up the river and dock at the industrial site.
