Fresno County agency is providing Thanksgiving meals to those in need

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Hundreds of people will now have a Thanksgiving meal this holiday thanks to the generosity of others.

The potatoes are being mashed inside Café EOC, run by the Economic Opportunities Commission. This holiday favorite will be in a Thanksgiving box heading to tables in Fresno.

Morgan Terry said, "95 boxes being delivered to families all over the city that didn't know where their meal was coming from."

Morgan Terry is with Café EOC. This year they decided to do Catering with a Cause.

For every meal purchased, two more meals would be donated. Chef Jon Escobar spent all weekend preparing the food.

"We did roughly 450 pounds of turkey, we did another 800 servings of stuffing and probably 1,000 servings of green bean casserole, 50 gallons of turkey stock," said Chef Escobar.

That will feed almost 800 people.

District five Council Member Luis Chavez purchased 20 meals to hand out to community members.

One family just had a newborn baby.

With work hard to come by, they said they were thankful for the help.

"It made me feel good. This is actually my old neighborhood. I grew up a few blocks from here, down that way, so we gotta do more of this in our community. We gotta take care of each other," said Chavez.

Chavez said he wanted to pay it forward by providing a meal, they did not have to cook.

Mother Lakrisha Darks said it will help feed their family including one-year-old Uydayah.

"Probably the pie and the dressing and the ham and stuff because she eats a lot," said Darks.

A Fresno family that is extra grateful this Thanksgiving. Fresno EOC wants to spread holiday cheer beyond Thanksgiving.

They will be doing Catering With a Cause for Christmas and will take orders for prime rib dinners November 25 through December 15.
