Boy finds $8,000 in Massachusetts park, turns it in

SALEM, Mass. -- For a 7-year-old Massachusetts boy, finding thousands of dollars was a way to put the Golden Rule he learned into action.

Aiden Wright told WBZ he has always been taught to do the right thing. He was able to prove that on Saturday when he found $8,000 at a Salem, Massachusetts park.

"I ran up the slide and at the top I looked at the corner and there was this black checkbook and I opened it up and I saw $8,000 in it and then I brought it to down my uncle," Wright told a WBZ reporter.

Aiden Wright and his uncle, Danny, immediately turned the money into police. The money belonged to Elias Santos, a contractor who had just got paid.

"I am so grateful, you know, because we don't have people like this no more," Santos said. He also told WBZ that he was surprised when police called.

Lt. Matthew Desmond with the Salem Police Department said police called Santos to verify the missing money.

"Officer asked him if he's missing anything or got robbed and he fished in his pocket immediately and said I am missing $8,000," Desmond said.

For his honesty, Santos gave Aiden $100.

"He's been taught from day one to do the right thing. This just shows the lessons has been learned and I'm so proud," mom Ellen Wright added.
