BIG PINE, Calif. (KFSN) -- An earthquake that shook Inyo County Tuesday afternoon and it was felt all across the Valley.

The US Geological Survey recorded the 4.8 earthquake just after 3:00 Tuesday afternoon. Within 45 minutes four more quakes stronger than a 2.5 hit the same area.

The quakes shook right in the middle of a stretch of seismic activity. This area of the Sierra just south of Mono Lake has a history of violent volcanic eruption over the past 3,000 years, according to the USGS.

In the Action News newsroom our phones rang off the hook in the moments after the earthquakes happened. And our ABC30 Insiders have been sharing with us through social media where they felt it. Some felt it as far away as Visalia with others in Lindsay, Chowchilla, and Fresno posting about their experiences with the quakes.

So far, there are no reports of any injuries or damage in or around Big Pine.
