Major renovations coming to Bullard High School

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Big changes are coming to Bullard High School.

Construction is currently underway on a $36 million renovation that will bring 40 classrooms and better technology to campus and crews are already out hammering out the areas.

"We're adding 40 new classrooms a new administration building along the palm frontage, expanded library and career center and a large quad as you can see behind me which the campus hasn't had in the past," Karen Temple with the Fresno Unified School District said.

Temple says the $36 million dollar project hopes to completely transform Bullard High's campus. It's being paid for by Measure Q, a bond passed by voters in 2010.

"The architecture matches the overall surrounding neighborhoods, but it also is a much more modernized, updated look," she said. "I think when people see the new building along Palm, they'll be stunned."

The project will have a similar look to Bullard High's newest building on campus. It'll feature LED lighting and better technology.

The construction will be going on for at least the next year but officials say it's necessary. The high school hasn't seen many improvements since it's opening 60 years ago.

"It's long overdue and it helps with our growing population, too," vice principal Vince Salazar said. "We're growing our number of students."

Salazar says the new construction and technology improvements will also provide better tools in the classroom.

"Science labs, biomedicine, business, marketing, law and justice pathways," Salazar added. "Those pathways and other programs will be able to be served in these buildings."
