Porn production down 90 percent in LA after 2012 condom law
LOS ANGELES -- Pornographic movie production has plummeted in Los Angeles County in the wake of a 2012 law requiring performers to wear condoms.
The Los Angeles Times says only 40 permits were issued for X-rated productions last year in LA city and county - down 90 percent from 2012.
FilmL.A. - the nonprofit group that handles permits - says just 20 permits were issued through July of this year.
Vivid Entertainment and Penthouse Entertainment both have stopped shooting films in the city.
That's a change from the decades when LA's San Fernando Valley was the center of a multibillion-dollar industry and comes amid a continuing flight of mainstream productions out of state.
The condom measure was backed as a disease prevention measure but producers say customers just don't like condom porn.
