FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Thanksgiving is right around the corner, and this year we want to make the meal extra special.
Makes 4, 8 inch waffles
Ingredients
1 cup chopped celery
2/3 cup chopped onion
1/3 cup butter or margarine
2 tsp. snipped fresh sage or 1 tsp.
ground sage or poultry seasoning
1/8 tsp. black pepper
8 cups dry bread cubes
2/3 - 1 cup chicken broth
2 eggs, beaten
Directions
1. In large skillet, cook celery and onion in hot butter until tender but not brown. Remove from heat. Stir in sage and pepper.
2. Place the bread cubes in a large bowl. Add onion mixture. Drizzle with
enough chicken broth to form a thick "batter" and add in 2 eggs, tossing lightly to combine.
3. Brush Olive Oil on preheated Waffle Iron. Pour batter into waffle iron starting in the center and spreading evenly around. Cook for approx. 10 minutes on Medium-High heat.
4. Remove from heat and cut into triangles to serve. Serve with Turkey Gravy
Baking Alternative
Transfer bread mixture to a 2-quart casserole dish. Bake in preheated oven at 325 degrees, covered for 30 to45 minutes or until heated through. Makes 8-10 servings.
TIP: Try adding apples, raisins, almonds, parsley, pork sausage, or even oysters for a change of flavor! You might even try using a variety of breads!
