Fresno Police announce student arrested for school threats on social media

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Fresno Police have just announced the arrest of a Kings Canyon Middle School student today for making school threats on social media.

Since the Florida school shooting two weeks ago, Fresno officers have investigated 12 potential threats and made three arrests, even though they deemed all the threats not credible.

Fresno Unified Superintendent Bob Nelson says the threats have caused absenteeism to soar at certain schools, and both the district and the police take it seriously.

"If you engage in making threats on social media, you are absolutely going to change the trajectory of your future life, both from a penal standpoint and an educational standpoint. It's not a joke. We don't treat it as a joke," Bob Nelson, FUSD Superintendent.

Police Chief Jerry Dyer urged parents to get involved in monitoring social media posts. He said they intend to investigate every threat and arrest everyone involved.
