FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- California Highway Patrol officers say seven people are hospitalized after a GPS unit fell off a windshield and distracted a driver. It happened on Highway 152 near Road 13 in Madera County on Saturday.
Authorities say Jacob Garce, 19, was driving a Honda when his GPS device fell to the floorboard. He looked down to find it and slammed into the back of a Ford Expedition.
The SUV veered off the road and overturned, trapping the driver and six passengers. They were all freed by firefighters and taken to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno with major injuries.
Garce was not hurt. It's not clear if he'll face any charges.
