Woodlake hoping to monetize marijuana production within city

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- With the passage of Proposition 64 last November, legal marijuana could be a huge boon to California's economy and there are many smaller cities across the state looking to pot to increase revenue - one of those is Woodlake.

The Tulare County city is looking at the possibility of not only selling marijuana but growing it too. Woodlake residents weighed in with their thoughts Monday on becoming a cannabis-oriented community.

"I have a real difficult time," one resident said. "Someone my age accepting this - of course I'm way past the age of silliness of smoking marijuana anyway."

"I've heard these gentlemen, these elder gentlemen say some things, and I understand where they're coming from but the state of California, which is where we all live in, has passed this and we voted on it," a board member responded.

The meeting was just the beginning of discussions, but beginning in January of 2018 cities all across the state can allow retail sales and consumption of pot.

If Woodlake can close the generational divide, it may be one of those cities to grow and sell cannabis.
