Car crash near Avenal leaves driver dead

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- California Highway Patrol officers are investigating a deadly single-vehicle crash near Avenal.

The crash happened just before 2:30 a.m. Saturday on southbound Highway 33, north of Highway 41. Officers say for unknown reasons the driver of a Honda Civic veered to the right shoulder of the highway. They say the car then overturned several times before coming to rest on its wheels.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. He has only been identified as a male from Wasco.

Investigators say alcohol and drugs do not appear to have been factors in the crash.
