FBI looks to solve 20-year-old cold case near Cal Poly

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- The FBI will be at the Cal Poly campus looking for clues in a more than 20-year-old mystery. They are hoping to find the remains 19-year-old Kristin Smart who vanished in 1996.

Smart was from Stockton. She disappeared near the Cal Poly campus on her way back to her dorm from a party.

The dig site is one of several identified by specially trained dogs last January. The locations of the other sites are not being released.

The sheriff's office says the renewed effort to find Smart is the result of comprehensive review of the case.
