Reaction to Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 Tragedy
FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Families with strong ties to Ukraine are watching the ongoing investigation unfold into who is responsible for shooting down Malaysia Airlines Flight 17.
"It was a bit shock to me that it happened, obviously on our territory, Ukrainian territory." Said Mykhaylo Skitsak.
Skitsak has seen much more graphic pictures of the wreckage on their native Ukrainian outlets.
"There are some images you cannot look for a long time because you can see little babies, little kids still buckled in their seats but dead and it's horrible to see that kind of scenery and know that someone was expecting them to land," added Skitsak.
Ukranian president Petro Proshenko has called the downing of the plane an act of terrorism. His view is supported by Ivan Mileyev.
"Evil exists in the world and when evil people do evil stuff that's terrorism and I can't justify this kind of crime," said Mileyev.
Ukrainian leaders claim intercepted phone calls shows a pro-Russian separatist who shot down the plane but Russian president Vladimir Putin fought back saying Ukraine is responsible for the crash.
Both Valley men told Action News, there's no way to know for sure who is responsible unless an outside agency heads the investigation.
