Fresno Co transportation company goes green
Fresno County Rural Transit Agency helps hundreds of thousands of people in the Valley and recently they added brand new all-electric vehicles to their fleet.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- The Fresno County Rural Transit Agency has some new vehicles and they are making a big impact. Recently they added their first ever zero emission, 100-percent electric buses to their fleet.

FCRTA General Manager, Moses Stites said, "We are one of the first transit agencies in Fresno to implement zero-emission vehicles."

Right now they have four all-electric vans and they have seven buses on the way, with the goal of going completely emission-free by the year 2025.

"You have to take the initiative and you have to take the leap of faith and we believe it is a good investment, especially when we are investing in small communities, " Sites said.

The transit agency transports people all throughout Fresno County for less than 50 cents. Last year alone they provided services for about a quarter of a million people. They also give free rides to the disabled and seniors, like Asomaliu Gurner.

"My family is not here and if I want to go to the store I just call them and they come pick me up," Gurner said.

Gurner recognizes the impact the new vehicles will make on the environment.

"A lot of pollution around here you know, so that is really good."

New solar-powered charge stations were also added and are accessible to the public. The new vehicles were completely grant-funded and are expected to come in by the end of fall.
