Visalia woman kills boyfriend in self-defense, police say
Police say a Visalia woman acted in self-defense when she shot and killed her boyfriend.

VISALIA, Calif. (KFSN) -- Police say a Visalia woman acted in self-defense when she shot and killed her boyfriend.

It happened shortly before 9:00 Thursday morning on Vassar near Burke. That's when police got a 911 call from inside a home.

Detectives found a man with two gunshot wounds to his chest. He later died at the hospital.

Investigators say they've had problems with the couple before, and had previously been called to the house for fights between the same two people.

Sgt. Damon Maurice with the Visalia Police Department said, "What prompted the call from the victim was a series of assaults on the victim from the suspect and at one point this morning the female victim took a firearm from the residence and shot the male."

Detectives say they're still trying to figure out what happened in the moments before the shooting.

The case will now be turned over to the district attorney's office.
