Blossom trail comes to life

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A warming trend has helped to bring on pretty colors on the Fresno County Blossom Trail.

Peach and nectarine orchards were popping in pink near Selma. For many folks in the valley, the blossom trail has long offered the perfect place to pull over and snap a few selfies. It typically draws visitors from all over the state. Jon McClarty of HMC Farms explained, "Peaches and nectarines are pink blossoms and plums are white."

McClarty said the bloom has come a little early. "This year is a little bit later than last year. Last year was probably the earliest we've ever seen so it's still a few days ahead of what we would consider normal."

The bees have been busy pollinating the blossoms. McClarty wasn't too worried about the rain which is forecast later this week. He said, "No I think you always have to be prepared and expect it to rain in February and March and even beyond."

Any rain and especially fresh snow would be welcome for later use by growers.

Eventually, the pretty petals will fall and fruit will begin to form on the trees.
