Roads closed due to flooding in the North Valley

MERCED, Calif. (KFSN) -- Some North Valley roads are closed because of flooding from this weekend's rain. The water level at Bear Creek in Merced County is so high that it's covering parts of the bike path that runs alongside it. So far, no major problems have been reported but, due to flooding, some roads could be closed for days.

Bert Crane road looked more like a boat dock leading into a lake Monday because of floodwater from Bear Creek. But it is a rural area of Merced County that is not heavily traveled. "It's very common to experience some flooding out in that area when we get heavy rains and heavy flows along the creek, so, it's nothing abnormal, and it's a non-residential area so there should be no damage to any structures, or threat to any people out there," said Mike North, Merced County spokesperson.

Childs Avenue near Highway 59 in Merced was also underwater after three separate storms brought heavy rain to the area, but it was cleared by Monday morning.

In Madera County, two roads remain closed-- including a stretch of Avenue 13 between Roads 29 and 30. A deputy patrolled the area to keep people from trying to drive through the rushing water.

Also in Madera County, Avenue 10 is closed between Road 40 and Brickyard. It's not clear when the flooded roads could re-open, especially if we get more heavy rain. But so far there has only been very light showers.
