Hundreds of high ranking police officers from all over California are coming to downtown Fresno this week, but it's not a big swat scene.Fresno is hosting the 31st annual California Police Chiefs Conference. It includes workshops for chiefs, plus several significant speakers.

Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer will be installed as president of the association

He says one of the most important parts of the conference is getting to talk to people like Attorney General Jerry Brown and Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.

He says they need to know the issues affecting police, up and down the state.

"One of those things is the movement we've seen in the last several years in the state of California, a movement towards decriminalizing drugs in our society? And also making sure the governor understands how important it is not to release prisoners from our prisons back into our society," says Chief Dyer.

Another benefit of the conference for Fresno is that hotels have booked 1,600 rooms through Thursday.
