History repeated itself as Fresno voters opted for an outsider in the race for mayor. Ashley Swearengin defeated Councilmember Henry T. Perea by a 10 point margin to become Fresno's next mayor. Ashley Swearengin is in the process of putting together a transition team before she takes office in January. The 36-year old is just the second woman to be elected Fresno mayor.

Fresno Mayor-Elect Ashley Swearengin didn't get much sleep after celebrating with her supporters at the downtown club Tuesday night. This was a time to party but now the real work begins.

Swearengin said, "I'm planning to take a couple of days off and then next week I'm back in the office. I'll be spending time with people at City Hall now and so many people in the community who have been involved in the campaign. We'll really lay out a plan for the next six weeks, how we work out a smooth transition."

Swearengin will be sworn into office at City Hall January sixth, current Mayor Alan Autry issued this statement ... saying "Our great city is in good hands as we continue on our march forward as a premier city in the nation."

Autry has said Swearengin can take Fresno farther than he could even imagine.

Swearengin said, "First of all I think he's opened the doors and I don't think anyone could've done what he did. He changed our perception or ourselves and raised the profile of our city.

Throughout her campaign Ashley Swearengin said voters wanted an outsider with business experience, now this outsider enters the political mainstream in charge of guiding Fresno for the next four years.

Swearengin said, "Now there's a lot of work to be done. I think that's what I enjoy doing. That's what I'm good at doing and that's organizing people, finding the resources and executing on the plans that are really needed to advance the city."
